“Leaders for Life…Voyage to Greatness”

Taylor Students are LEADERS for LIFE!

The world is constantly changing. Preparing our students for a world we have never seen is an awesome task. Amid all of the changes, there are timeless, universal principles that remain constant and transcend all cultural and socio-economic boundaries. Parents, teachers, and businesses all agree that there are specific skills our children need to be successful. They include honesty, fairness, teamwork, problem-solving, decision making, creativity, initiative, self-confidence, planning, and goal setting skills.

We would like to introduce you to a program which will empower your child to become a true leader. The program is called “Leaders for Life…Voyage to Greatness” and is part of Bradley County Schools’ cutting edge leadership plan. Our goal is to find the unique gifts of each child and provide positive encouragement while allowing students to develop their own leadership skills. Here are the principles for sailing:

1.      I am the captain of my ship. (Goal Setting)

2.      I am in “Ship Shape”. (Mind, Body, Soul)

3.      I chart my course. (Planning Strategies for Success)

4.      I set sail. (Taking Action)

5.      I am a good “crewmate”. (Teamwork, Friendship)

6.      I lend a hand on deck. (Service, Citizenship, Patriotism)

7.      I check my compass. (Staying on Course)

8.      I persevere through life’s storms. (Perseverance, Character Development)

“Leaders for Life” is designed to help every child develop skills and character traits which will empower them to be leaders throughout their lives. In Bradley County Schools, we are convinced that children must experience greatness in order to aspire to it. Your child is embarking on a wonderful voyage to greatness! We invite you to climb aboard the S.S. Leader Ship and set sail with us!   One of our goals is for every child to reach their personal best and find a strength or gift to show leadership. Data notebooks will be used school wide to promote responsibility and ownership of learning. Classroom goals and mission statements will be posted throughout the school.  Thank you for your support and working as a team to ensure success for your child. We are looking forward to a meaningful and exciting year full of wonderful learning opportunities. Our mission is to create individual student growth in leadership skills and subject-area content knowledge which results in academic achievement, preparedness for secondary school, and career/college readiness.  We are proud of Taylor elementary school and we look forward to working with you. We encourage you to take an active part in your child’s education.

MAINTAINING A SAFE AND RESPECTFUL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

It is our desire to establish a positive learning environment at Taylor Elementary School.  Through research and practice, we have found that setting school-wide expectations and procedures is essential to creating an appropriate climate for learning. We will implement Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) PBIS is an evidence-based three-tiered framework to improve and integrate all of the data, systems, and practices affecting student outcomes every day.  Students will be rewarded for positive behaviors during House Party Celebrations.  PBIS creates schools where all students succeed.

Teachers will send home behavior expectations at the beginning of each school year. Please support our efforts to establish within the classroom an atmosphere that is conducive to learning. Students are expected to conduct themselves in an orderly manner at all times. Please take time to discuss with your child the importance of school expectations. When infractions occur and escalate beyond handling by the classroom teacher, a discipline referral will be completed and given to the principal. The principal will address the problem and communicate with parents as necessary. The faculty, staff, and administration will encourage and recognize good behavior for all students.

We are committed to fostering a safe and respectful learning environment for all students, staff, and volunteers.  This includes creating an atmosphere free from threats, intimidation, or harassment.  NO student will be allowed to bully, harass, or make threats to another student (6.304). These and any other unacceptable behaviors will be taken seriously and dealt with accordingly. The following behaviors are considered unacceptable and will result in disciplinary action.

  • Verbal threats or assault: This includes any communication that conveys a present intent and ability to inflict physical or emotional harm on another person.
  • Making threats against school property or activities: This encompasses all threats targeting school buildings, property, or school-related events.

Weapons (Knives, guns, and other dangerous objects) are not permitted on the campus or the buses (real or toy). Students should not bring toys, trading cards or electronic devices to school. If these items create a distraction they will be taken up and may be picked up by the parents. If your child has a cell phone or Smart Watch, it must be turned off and remain in their backpack during school hours. The principal or his/her designee may grant a student permission to use a cell phone at his/her discretion.  A device used outside these parameters shall result in confiscation of the device until it can be released to the student’s parent or guardian.  A student in violation of this policy is subject to disciplinary action.  Use of cameras on personal communication devise is strictly prohibited on school property or at school functions.
