Public Displays of Affection (PDA)
Public Display of Affection (PDA) is often considered a public profession of how two people feel about one another. This type of behavior is seen as a distraction and inappropriate for a school setting. Unacceptable public displays of affection include, but are not limited to, any prolonged embracing and/or kissing, hand holding, and any inappropriate touching. PDA at school is in poor taste, disruptive to the educational environment, and may violate sexual harassment laws. It is the administrator’s obligation to provide a safe and secure learning environment for all students. This includes providing all students an environment free of embarrassment or discomfort because of others displaying unacceptable public displays of affection. Therefore, all students and visitors are expected to refrain from PDA whether in school, on school grounds, on buses, or at any school sponsored event on or off campus including field trips.
